Dear Summit Neighbor,
My name is Richard Sun and I am running to represent you as your Councilman-At-Large. Yes, it’s true. I’m 24 years old.
Our town is in the midst of transition. We see empty storefronts all along Springfield Avenue. We no longer have a local printed newspaper. As someone who grew up in Summit during this era of change, I can help build Summit’s bridge to the future.
I am the proud product of Washington School, Summit Middle School and the Union County Magnet School. I graduated from Columbia University where I was elected to the University Senate, named a Rhodes Scholar Finalist, and served as a White House Intern.
While in high school, I was appointed by Common Council to the Recycling Advisory Committee, where I co-founded the Summit Free Market. I am an Eagle Scout and currently serve as an Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 67. At McKinsey & Company, I worked with public and private sector organizations to streamline costs and find innovative sources of revenue. I focused on topics critically relevant to Summit: public transit planning and funding, and pharmaceutical business development.
Summit enabled my family to live a small piece of the American dream. My parents grew up in China during the Cultural Revolution and never had the chance to attend high school. I am deeply committed to Summit because of the opportunities that Summit has provided me.
We must work together to update the City Master Plan. We must prepare our schools to reflect our changing needs. We must ensure an engaging commercial center in Summit’s Downtown and secure efficient, reliable public transit to New York.
We need to come together to keep Summit great. I want Summit to continue to be one of the best places to raise a family--where my generation will want to raise our children.
Please let me know your thoughts and concerns. Earning your vote on November 3rd is important to me.
